I Had Cancer is a Drupal 6 website that I launched as lead developer and themer, working as a consultant with the Squeaky Wheel Media agency in NYC. I was tasked to complete, stabilize, and launch the website which was drifting away into eternal 90% finished land. I worked about half a year on the site's architecture, configuration, module coding, and front-end theming. Revamped the registration process, member profile pages, blogs, friend emailing/messaging, and other areas. I also built the Newsfeed section to pull in activity data from a member's circle of friends... something like a Facebook or Google+ wall. I remember this being some challenging programming - there is a reason the big social networking sites are hard to mimic.
Most importantly I hope the website has been useful for the community it was meant to serve, a community that had largely been swept under the carpet. My favorite section was the Dear Cancer blog such a powerful venting platform! It has received some great press and won a 2011 Pixel Award, a 2012 Webby Award for best community website, and was a Webby nomination finalist in 2013, 2014, and 2015 going up against community heavyweights like Github and Tumblr.
